What the apogee CLI sends, what it never sends, and how to turn it off.

The `apogee` CLI sends one anonymous event each time you run `init`, `add`, `list`, `diff` or `update`. We use it to see which components people add and which Node versions to support. The first run prints a one-line notice.

## Turn it off

Set either variable in your shell or CI:

```sh
APOGEE_TELEMETRY=0
DO_NOT_TRACK=1
```

The CLI also sends nothing when `CI` is set, so build machines don’t count, and nothing from a fork published under another package name.

## What an event contains

```json
{
  "event": "cli add",
  "distinct_id": "746572fd-8069-471f-9f34-f51ecd519b94",
  "properties": {
    "$geoip_disable": true,
    "cli_version": "0.8.1",
    "node_version": "22",
    "os": "darwin",
    "items": ["Badge"],
    "files": 2
  }
}
```

- `distinct_id` is a random ID the CLI creates once and keeps in `~/.config/apogee/telemetry.json`. Delete the file to get a new one.
- The command adds its own details: `add` sends the component names you asked for and how many files it wrote; `diff` and `update` send counts per status; `init` sends the skin name if you chose one.

## What it never sends

No names, emails, file paths, project names, file contents or environment variables. The events go to PostHog’s EU cloud with `$process_person_profile: false`, so PostHog builds no profile of you. The project discards IP addresses and has PostHog’s location lookup switched off, so no country, city or coordinates are stored either.

## When it sends

After the command finishes. The request gives up after 1.5 seconds and never fails the command, so a slow or blocked network only means no event.
